Dear Parents,
Thank you for attending our CL Parents Symposium yesterday. Hope that the talk is of some help to you.
Thank you so much for your support.
Dear Parents,
By now, I’m sure you have already received the consent forms for this Saturday’s Parents Symposium. I would like to take this opportunity to do a little more introduction on our CL Parents Symposium.
Basically, the main aim of this symposium will be to recommend parents some useful methods/tips to help your son in learning CL at home. Other than what teachers do in school, parents can help to reinforce what the boys have learned at home. The 2 speakers who are coming for the symposium will be recommending the different approaches for you to try with your son at home.
In fact, we are very fortunate to be able to invite these 2 lecturers to come down to our school for this symposium. Moreover, one of the speakers, Dr. Tan Chee Lay, was one of my lecturers in NIE. He is a very knowledgeable man, and has got very great passion for helping students who come from non-chinese speaking backgrounds to learn Chinese well. He was a PhD student of University of Cambridge, and had published countless research papers. He used to tutor the Language Elective Programme in Hwa Chong Junior College in Singapore. He was a Singapore Public Service Commission overseas scholar who studied Chinese in National Taiwan Normal University. As Chairman of the college Alumni Literary Group, he publishes the Hwa Chong Literary Series and inaugurated the 1st bilingual Singapore Student Literary Award in 2000. He has also published a website when he did his PhD, http://people.pwf.cam.ac.uk/clt37/
I understand that one of the concerns that many parents face is that the session might not be in English. I would like to assure you that the whole symposium will be in English. The 2 speakers are bilingual and are able to converse in Mandarin and English.
Refreshments will be provided on that day. If your son has lost the form, please print out the form as shown above, and you can pass the $10 (per person attending) to your son, before submitting to me. If you are really not able to turn up, please also pass me the form by indicating that you are “unable” to attend for my own record.
Thank you very much for your kind attention. And I hope to see you this Saturday (12th April 2008), 9am.
Dear Parents,
the above form was given out to the boys last month for your consent to have your son participate in this Conversational Malay Programme in school. However, there were very few replies from most of the parents. Hence, I would like to take this opportunity to talk a little more about this programme.
This programme is programme is totally non-examinable. The boys do not need to take any exams or tests for this course. However, the boys will be issued a certificate upon completion of the programme. The main aim of this programme is to expose the pupils to a third language. Moreover, this course focus mainly on conversation, meaning students get to learn how to converse in Malay with their friends.
The programme will be held in school on every Saturday, and it is totally FREE. The fees are totally paid for by MOE.
If you are interested, you can have your son get another form from me. Alternatively, you can print the form out from home by clicking on the form above. I understand that some parents have already indicated that they do not wish to participate in this programme previously, however, should you change your decision, you can pass to me a second form indicating that you allow your son to participate in this programme.
If you have anymore queries, feel free to let me know, or you may contact my colleagues through the emails or phone number indicated in the form.
Thank you very much for your kind attention. Hope to hear from your replies soon.

Happy Lunar New Year!!
May you have a properous year ahead!
Dear all,
I would like to recommend this above-mentioned guide book for Chinese Language. It is actually a Vocabulary guide book based on the words taught in the textbook. Whenever the boys come across any Vocabulary in the textbooks which they do not know, they can refer to this guide book. This book not only provides them meanings of the words in Chinese and English, it also provides them with examples on how they can make sentences with the words.
This is how the cover looks like:

You can get this book in all Popular outlets for only $3.95.
However, it is NOT COMPULSORY for the boys to buy this book, as we will not be going through this guide book during lessons. However, I think this book might be useful to the boys when they need to do any self-study at home.
